The recent allegations against Guy Herschel Beahm, also known as Dr Disrespect, have rocked the streaming community in recent days. Former Twitch employees claim that Dr Disrespect sent inappropriate messages to a minor in 2017 and planned a meeting at TwitchCon.

These allegations have now led to drastic measures, and the career and reputation of Twitch's former figurehead seem beyond saving.

Dr Disrespect loses important partners

The reactions were not long in coming: YouTube, Dr Disrespect's main platform after his Twitch ban in 2020, demonetized his channel. From now on, he can no longer generate any income here, neither through advertising nor paid channel memberships.

But it doesn't stop there, many other partnerships have since been terminated. These include:

  • Turtle Beach (Headset manufacturer)
  • Razer (Gaming accessories manufacturer)
  • Mountain Dew (soft drink brand)
  • G-Fuel (Energy drink brand)

Even his own game studio, Midnight Society, parted ways with him after the streamer admitted his own misconduct.

Reporting to the authorities

As journalist Rod Slashers Wroclaw last weekend in a podcast reported, the case was already reported by Twitch to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in 2020, which further underlines the seriousness of the allegations.

This is an American government agency that specializes in protecting children from abuse and exploitation. Despite the significant professional consequences, Dr Disrespect has so far been spared legal action.

It remains unclear whether authorities did not find legally relevant material in the messages between Beahm and the teenager or whether they did not pursue the case further.

Twitch lets pedophiles roam free

Dr Disrespect himself strongly denies any criminal offence and stresses that the Matter was settled contractually and no misconduct was grantedHowever, it is important to point out that the failure to find misconduct does not mean that no misconduct has occurred.

And according to streamer and former Twitch employee Rellim, there is more of it on Twitch than you would imagine:

I don't think most people have any idea how bad things were behind the scenes at Twitch. I worked in the department that had access to the most data and information. I heard private messages, etc. It was literally my job to do research on a daily basis.

I saw things every day that I wish I had never had to see. I have always strived to be a good person. I have always expressed with great emotion in my streams that Twitch lets pedophiles walk around freely every day. I signed an NDA and I'm scared of getting in trouble, but I have to say something. This has been bothering me for so long. These sick pigs don't deserve to be free.

It remains to be seen whether Dr Disrespect’s case is just the beginning of a larger development.
