XDefiant receives crucial changes – developer admits mistakes

XDefiant is facing some changes. Ubisoft San Francisco wants to improve the pace of the game and admits that it made mistakes in the gameplay and progression system. The studio now wants to fix these.

XDefiant listens to player feedback

XDefiant was released on PC and consoles on May 21, 2024 and has been free to play since then. Nevertheless, there is a lot of criticism. Ubisoft wants to tweak the pace of the game in particular to respond to player feedback.

Executive Producer Mark Rubin has commented on this on X and admits that there are some errors that are now to be fixed. He writes in detail what will be changed in XDefiant “very soon”.

“We're changing the speed at which you level up each tier. We're going down from the current number of 3000XP to 1500XP, doubling the speed at which you level up,” Rubin writes. “The tiers you need to reach to unlock a Mastery skin will remain the same, but the net effect is that we're reversing the change we made while keeping the 14% speed increase.”

“This means unlocking attachments will be super fast, but grinding for gold will be 14% faster than before the last patch. This also means all players will get a big jump in their current level.”

According to Rubin, in XDefiant you play mainly for weapon mastery. As Rubin explains, there was initially a fear that players would unlock the highest levels too quickly. After launch, the team therefore made a change and increased the grind. However, those who were already focused on progress suffered from the change.

The first season for XDefiant begins on July 2, 2024 and introduces a ranked system.
