XDefiant: Finally official numbers – How successful is the free2play shooter?

Last month, Ubisoft San Francisco released the free-to-play shooter “XDefiant” for the current consoles and PC. But how successful is the title? Ubisoft is finally providing concrete figures.

After several postponements appeared the free-to-play multiplayer shooter “XDefiant“ last month for PC and current generation consoles.

Although “XDefiant” had launched with minor technical problems Since Ubisoft San Francisco managed to fix the problems relatively quickly, they had no negative impact on the success of “XDefiant”. Quite the opposite: According to unconfirmed reports, the shooter moved into its first week almost eight million players at.

In a current interview Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot finally gave us official figures. As Guillemot confirmed, “XDefiant” now has more than eleven million players.

As Guillemot added, live service titles will continue to play an important role in Ubisoft's plans. “We need to continue to listen carefully to our players and make informed decisions about where to focus our efforts,” said Guillemot. “Because those who are successful in the GaaS space can also be successful in the long term.”

The CEO of Ubisoft continued: “Let's look at XDefiant. There is still a lot of work to be done. But it has been able to attract eleven million players in a short period of time. And that number will grow with all the work the team does to ensure that the first season expands the existing experience even further.”

“It’s about making the right decisions and sticking with them.”

XDefiant still has a long way to go

Regarding “XDefiant,” Guillemot added that the multiplayer shooter still has a long way to go and will be continuously expanded and improved over the next few years. New content and features are planned to keep the gaming experience exciting in the long term.



“Aside from constantly updating it, with different experiences and optimized gameplay, I would like to see it as a serious esport,” Guillemot continued. “But for a game like this, there really are no limits to the future.”

“And we have a fantastic team that listens and communicates with our players, which is so important. We've started strong, but there's still a long way to go and I'm excited for us to rise to the challenge.”

“XDefiant” is available for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
