The end of Xbox Live Gold in favor of Xbox Game Pass Core changes the Xbox service offering quite significantly. This is particularly the case when we talk about conversion to “upgrade” your subscription to another. We have tested the different cases, we will explain to you.

Microsoft announced the end of Xbox Live Gold this summer with some changes to its on-demand gaming service offering. This is how the Xbox Game Pass Core was born, including access to online gaming and around thirty games from the Xbox Game Pass catalog. With the disappearance of Gold, it was therefore legitimate to ask several questions related to the transition from one subscription to another, as was the case between Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass. We’ve tested all the cases, here’s what’s happening!

Do Xbox Live Gold cards still work?

Even though Xbox Live Gold has no longer been sold by Microsoft since September 14, it still remains in circulation with various merchants. The good news is that these Xbox Live Gold codes still work and they convert to Xbox Game Pass Core at a 1:1 ratio.

This means that 3 months of Xbox Live Gold now converts to 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Core. Having tested it, we confirm that it works perfectly.

Converting Xbox Game Pass Core to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate works perfectly

What happens if you have an Xbox Game Pass Core subscription and want to upgrade to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription? Here too, we did the test by looking to subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate by having 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Core.

And then we discover two good news. The first is that it works perfectly. The second is that the conversion ratio is 1:1 whereas it was 3:2 when it was Xbox Live Gold! Our 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Core have been converted into 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, representing a cost of €7.26 for three months via our partner against €44.97 when you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate directly from Microsoft.

We continued our testing and purchased 2 years and 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Core. And there, surprise, the conversion ratio has been modified since we are now offered to convert our 27 months of Xbox Game Pass Core into 18 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, i.e. a ratio of 3:2, as was the case. case with Xbox Live Gold. It is therefore quite possible that the 1:1 conversion of Game Pass Core will only be done the very first time, before replenishing your account with more months.

Converting Xbox Game Pass Core to Xbox Game Pass Console or PC Game Pass does not work

Once our Xbox Game Pass Core subscription was activated, we wanted to see if it was possible to convert the subscription to Xbox Game Pass Console and the answer is simply no.

If you have an Xbox Game Pass Core subscription and want to take advantage of the Xbox Game Pass Console game catalog, you will need to subscribe twice. This is almost logical when we remember that the Xbox Game Pass console does not include online gaming, unlike the Xbox Game Pass Core.

If you want to benefit from the 400 Game Pass games on your Xbox console and play online, you must upgrade to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. But it would be strange to pay for two subscriptions when you can get the Ultimate subscription for 3x less thanks to our tip. This is even cheaper than the Core subscription!

Likewise, it is not possible to convert an Xbox Game Pass Core subscription to PC Game Pass.
