Why is the PS5 game also coming out for Switch but not for Xbox?

“LEGO Horizon Adventures” is coming out for the Switch, but not for the Xbox. James Windeler, Narrative Director at Guerrilla Games, attempted to explain.

The announcement of “LEGO Horizon Adventures” was a surprise despite the previous leaks. Because the title will not only be released for the PS5 and PC. Switch owners will also be able to enjoy the spinoff.

Xbox gamers, on the other hand, are left empty-handed. After Microsoft opened up part of its first-party offering to competing consoles, a later release on Xbox hardware would certainly be conceivable. But it hasn't been mentioned yet.

There is currently nothing to announce for the Xbox

But why is Sony Interactive Entertainment daring to make the leap to the Switch with “LEGO Horizon Adventures” but leaving another competing console out? It is a question that James Windeler, Narrative Director at Guerrilla Games, asks in Interview with Stephen Totilopublisher of the Game File newsletter, should answer.

He explained rather vaguely:

“Right now, we're focused on pushing the hardware to its limits and making the game look as amazing as it can on that hardware. And you know, we don't really have anything to announce about Xbox right now.”

It sounds more like a standard statement and should not necessarily be interpreted as the Xbox hardware being a hurdle. Given that the game is being released on a much weaker platform, namely the Nintendo Switch, an argument to the contrary would be quite questionable.

Since “LEGO Horizon Adventures” is not just a Sony brand, but the Danish manufacturer of interlocking bricks also has a say, the broadest possible range of the game could be part of the contract. And with more than 140 million consoles soldincluding many copies owned by children, the Switch seems to be the first choice.

Accordingly, Windeler said of the Switch version that the goal is to make “Horizon” accessible to a “much wider audience,” “including a family-friendly and younger audience.”

Since “Horizon” is also one of the most important PlayStation brands, Sony may have prevailed here at the expense of the Xbox hardware. It remains to be seen whether the platforms announced so far will remain in the long term. “LEGO Horizon Adventures” has been announced for PS5, Switch and PC:

The launch of “LEGO Horizon Adventures” is planned for this year. However, the exact date is still pending. PlayStation Store the title can already put on the wish list.
