What is the status of the MaRetraiteNupes site endorsed by Gabriel Attal?

On the evening of June 27, Gabriel Attal promoted a site called MaRetraiteNupes. His goal ? Attack the political program of the New Popular Front. But several problems were noted.

It's all gone from a tweet published on the evening of June 27, 2024. While a debate was being held on France 2 with Gabriel Attal (Renaissance), Olivier Faure (Socialist Party) and Jordan Bardella (National Rally), three days before the legislative elections, the X account on Prime Minister shared a link: MaRetraiteNupes.fr.

This site, still online as of June 28, aimed to show and challenge the way in which the alliance of left-wing parties would, according to the head of government, harm retirement pensions. But, beyond the calculation methods, which were immediately contested on the networks, it was the website's editing rules that posed a problem.

An initial absence of legal notices

The site did not actually have legal notices in its first version — a sign, among other things, of the hasty implementation of the site. According to the Whois of MaRetraiteNupes.frwhich provides information about the domain name, the site was created on June 27 from the French registrar Gandi.

It was in Whois that the legal notices first appeared. We see the mention of the political party (Renaissance, ex-LREM — La République en marche), the address of the headquarters of the political movement in Paris as well as a telephone number. However, all these mentions were initially absent from the site.

This is what many Internet users have noted, whether directly on X or elsewhere, like reddit. Moreover, Gabriel Attal's initial message ended up receiving a note from the community on X, to add some context (who created the party, why the site's calculation is considered unfair, what is the new program of the left).

The initial absence of legal notices – they have since been added, via a small link to the official Renaissance website – constituted a legal risk for the Prime Minister's political party. Indeed, not reporting who is behind a website is punished to the maximum one year in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros in France.

These provisions appear in an old law and, in principle, known and mastered by those who publish websites. Indeed, we find them in the 2004 law to confidence in the digital economy (LCEN) — text which has been regularly amended, most recently by the law aimed at to secure and regulate the digital space (SREN).

Disputed calculation method

Beyond the initial editing errors of MaRetraiteNupes.fr (which is based on the old name of the left alliance – New Ecological and Social Popular Union – and not on the one currently used – New Popular Front), this are the methods of calculation which have also been questioned.

The simulator ” is based on the progressive CSG proposed by an amendment tabled by Nupes deputies “. According to Renaissance, it “ This will lower the net amount of your pensions. This is logical, but it does not tell you: to finance retirement at 60, Nupes must necessarily lower the amount of your pensions. »

If a link to the amendment is providedthe simulator does not specify that it was rejected. It had been proposed in January 2023 during the debates in Parliament on the bill corrective financing of social security. What is also lacking is the quality of the calculation method, according to Renaissance's opponents.

Liars. This simulator is bogus. It doesn't even allow you to enter your number of tax shares! “, wrote Ian Brossat, senator member of the PCF. “ The site (…) is a lie because the code used to calculate your net pension after CSG does not take into account the elements necessary for the calculation and applies a dubious formula “, alerted another.
