Watch Dogs: Things are moving forward

While there probably won't be any new “Watch Dogs” games in the foreseeable future, a film adaptation of the hacker adventure is currently being worked on. Ubisoft gave us a promising update on this this week.

In April we received the messagethat due to the recent disappointing sales figures, Ubisoft may have decided to “Watch Dogs”-series on ice for the time being.

However, this only applies to the video games. The games released in March this year announced film adaptation of “Watch Dogs”, however, is still scheduled to be released. The people in charge at Ubisoft have now provided us with a status update. As the publisher announced, production of the “Watch Dogs” film recently started.

Unfortunately, Ubisoft did not say when further information or a first impression in the form of a trailer could be expected.

Which actors can we look forward to?

Without going into further detail, Ubisoft pointed out in the official announcement in spring that the film will tell a completely new story in the “Watch Dogs” universe. The main roles in the film will be played by actress Sophie Wilde.

In recent years, Wilde has appeared in “Talk to Me” and “Boy Swallows Universe,” among others. She is supported by a character played by Tom Blyth. Blyth has previously appeared in the Panem prequel “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” and the TV series “Billy the Kid,” among others.

But just like in the area of the plot, no concrete details have been given regarding the characters so far.

A screenplay by Christie Leblanc

Christie Leblanc will serve as screenwriter for the “Watch Dogs” film adaptation, while Mathieu Turi will take the director's chair. In recent years, Turi has played a leading role in projects such as “Hostile,” “Meander” and “The Deep Dark.”

Turi is currently working on a film adaptation of the action-adventure hit “A Plague Tale: Innocence”.

It is also unclear when the “Watch Dogs” film will find its way to the big screen. However, since production has only just started, experts say we shouldn't expect a theatrical release before 2026.

If Ubisoft gives a more concrete time frame or further details about the film adaptation of “Watch Dogs”, we will of course update you immediately.
