What is this Philips television?

The One is a television that has a classic design with thin borders, which highlight the 55-inch screen. The LED panel offers a 4K Ultra HD image with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels. Despite the absence of OLED or QLED, the image is of excellent quality and is accompanied by Dolby Vision, HDR 10 and HDR 10+ standards. These allow good contrasts and truly black blacks, as well as optimized colorimetry. Only the brightness can seem a little dim at times. The calibrated presets, however, help to get the best out of the panel.

If you are more into gaming, you can connect your PlayStation 5 or your Xbox Series to the HDMI 2.1 ports, and benefit from a refresh rate of 120 Hz. AMD FreeSync and ALLM and VRR modes are also included, for smooth the image, and reduce latency and screen tearing. Philips therefore offers a versatile television, with an ideal image for both cinema and video games. The same cannot be said of the audio, slightly behind with the TV speakers. A soundbar, even entry-level, will help get the most out of Dolby Atmos.

Is this Ambilight 4K TV a good deal?

Less than €700 is a fair price for a versatile television from a reliable brand. The icing on the cake is that Ambilight technology projects light onto your walls, behind and around the screen, thanks to a set of LEDs placed on the back of the television. The projected light matches the diffused image and increases the immersion, especially for video games where the effect is really nice. For cinema, Ambilight is not particularly interesting. But you can simply use it to project ambient light in the color and intensity of your choice, to instantly create a cozy TV corner. Ambilight can also be deactivated.
