With “Marvel Rivals,” players get an “Overwatch”-like team shooter in the Marvel universe. In an interview, the developers talked about cross-play and cross-progression, among other things.

“Marvel Rivals” will be a free-to-play multiplayer shooter that will be similar to “Overwatch” But what about cross-platform features in the game? In a recent interview, Executive Producer Danny Koo and Game Director Thad Sasser talked about such options.
Cross-Play is already available in beta
The developers from NetEase spoke to their colleagues from WCCFTech during the last Summer Game Fest 2024. Among other things, they talked about the different roles of the huge character roster, the possibilities for customization and the spectator mode, which is already in the game.
“Marvel Rivals” will be released for free on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. As Danny Koo and Thad Sasser said, the title will offer cross-play between these platforms. This feature will also be available in the beta.

However, cross-progression, i.e. transferring game progress from one platform to another, is a little more difficult. “What about cross-progression? Do you implement a NetEase profile so that someone who unlocks something on the PC can transfer it to the PlayStation?” the developers were asked during the interview.
“That's still being decided,” replied game director Thad Sasser. “As you can imagine, it's extremely complicated, so we're still looking into it. We've heard the public suggest this several times, so we're looking into it.”
Game can be tried out this month
The Closed beta for “Marvel Rivals” starts this July. Players in Europe, North America and Asia can already apply to take part in the test. The closed beta will begin on July 24, 2024 at midnight German time and last until August 5 at 9 a.m.
A long list of characters is available during testing: Adam Warlock, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Groot, Hela, Hulk, Iron Man, Loki, Luna Snow, Magik, Magneto, Mantis, Namor, Peni Parker, Punisher, Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, Storm, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man and Venom.
The three modes Convoy, Domination and Convergence are played on four different maps. According to the developers, additional content such as events, tournaments and live streams will be announced this July.
