Pathfinder 2E (stands for 2nd Edition) is one of the most popular alternatives to the fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. The world and the rules are similar enough to make the transition fairly easy. At the same time, Pathfinder offers more options for customizing heroes and the combat system is more dynamic.

If you've been thinking about trying out Pathfinder 2E with your group for a while, now is the perfect opportunity to get a bargain: Humble is currently offering a ton of content for the virtual tabletop version of the game. Perfect if you don't get together at a gaming table on a regular basis.

What exactly is included in the current bundle, until when is the discount valid, and who is it worth it for?

This is what the Pathfinder VTT bundle contains

To avoid any misunderstanding: It's not the classic rulebook on offer, but everything you need to play Pathfinder 2E with the VTT Fantasy Grounds. So it's software, not digital books!

what is FantasyGrounds? This VTT program is based on the Unity engine. Once you have registered there, you can unlock various modules, i.e. play various sets of rules there. D&D, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulu, World of Darkness, Cyberpunk Red and many more.

You can choose from three different packages, the cheapest costs 9 euros and includes the virtual beginner's box, a handful of adventures, game maps and three months access to Fantasy Grounds. So that's more than enough to get a taste of it for very little money.

Of course, the most content is in the most expensive bundle, for 28 euros you get everything for Fantasy Grounds:

  • Standard access to the VTT program and three months of Ultimate access (i.e. a time-limited premium account)
  • The basic rules for import
  • Additional rule sets, including creature collections, additional rules for character creation, more magic
  • Your own game management guide
  • Digital maps for cities, ruins, forests, magical libraries and more
  • Several pre-made adventures

If you were to buy everything individually without a discount, you would have to shell out a whopping 683 euros. The offer is valid until July 7, 2024.

For whom is the offer worthwhile?

Pathfinder 2E is an excellent, diverse game system and is generally well suited for all fantasy fans. You have to familiarize yourself with the rules first, but that's no different with competitors like Dungeons & Dragons or The Dark Eye.

What is Pen&Paper? Our expert explains the basics

If D&D 5th Edition doesn't offer you enough freedom, especially when it comes to character development, then Pathfinder 2E might make you happy. For example, it has tons of feats that you can use to give your characters unique abilities.

Battles work in a similar way, but are fundamentally different: they are turn-based, but you always have three actions instead of movement, action and bonus action. You can split these actions up; for example, a full movement costs one action, as does an attack. So moving twice and hitting once is just as good as not moving at all and hitting three times. Many spells and special maneuvers use two or three actions, so the balance is maintained.

Fun fact: The most famous D&D group in the world, Critical Role, also originally started with Pathfinder. The characters from their first campaign, Vox Machina, were almost all created in this system and were only transferred to D&D 5th Edition when their streams started.
