Since the release of Baldur's Gate 3, a strange cutscene involving companion Karlach has been causing a lot of speculation in the community about how the scene can be triggered. A YouTuber by the name of Proxy Gate Tactician is sure that it is impossible if you don't use mods. So sure, in fact, that he is offering $500 to anyone who manages to do it anyway.

In his latest video, the YouTuber reveals some myths surrounding Baldur's Gate 3 and explains why they are false claims. This includes the story about the Karlach scene.

What kind of scene is it?

The scene does exist, and some users have already recorded videos of it. We reported on it a few months ago. In the scene, Karlach becomes aware that she is a game character. She addresses the player behind the monitor directly, breaking the fourth wall. She asks if this is your first time doing this and if you are having fun. The scene can be seen here.

Since then, fans have been wondering how this scene is triggered. All video recordings available so far can be traced back to mods or cheats. But there are dozens of people who claim to have triggered the scene organically. Karlach's voice actress Samantha Béart also spoke in a post on X some time ago that the scene can be triggered organically.

But to date, no one has been able to explain in a reproducible way how this is supposed to work. There is much more solid evidence that the scene is not accessible in the actual game. Data miners have already combed through the game files and have only ever found the indication that the scene cannot currently be triggered.

According to the YouTuber, the bounty hunt for the lost cutscene will continue until the next patch is released. This update is currently planned for September and will round off Baldur's Gate 3. Above all, fans will be able to continue developing BG3 after that, because the final patch will finally bring genuine mod support for Baldur's Gate 3. Larian itself is focusing on the next project.
