The Unpleasant Reality of a Cold Shower and the Impact on the Future

Beyond Good & Evil has just thrown a chill with its latest game. Despite high expectations, the license does not seem to really interest. This is not very reassuring for the next episode of the series.

It's Ubisoft's pipe dream, a franchise that's even better than Duke Nukem in its day, Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been absent for far too long. Oh, we're constantly told that everything is fine, that development is on track and that everything is promising, but it's hard not to worry. Skull and Bones is a good example of a Ubisoft game that has simmered too much in the pot. The result is unfortunately not up to expectations, although not everything is to be thrown away. The specter of a failed start for Beyond Good & Evil 2 looms nearby, and if we thought that the license alone would sell, the recent remaster has proven us wrong…

Beyond Good & Evil doesn't really raise the crowds that much after all

A cold shower, that's what emerges from the performances of Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition, the remaster of the first opus freshly released on consoles and PC. If the overall data is still lacking, a trend is emerging on Steam, and it is not very good. Given the excitement and the crazy expectations around the second episode of the license, Ubisoft, like many of us, said to itself that this franchise had something under its belt. And it seems that ultimately, not so much unfortunately.

On Steam, although it was released recently, Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition struggles to convince. According to SteamCharts, the maximum peak of players reached simultaneously is only 584, which is clearly not great for a new release, especially for a license that is probably very popular and whose second episode seems to be extremely anticipated.

Figures that cast a chill.

Does it smell bad for the future?

Beyond Good & Evil 2 failed to provide enough nostalgic momentum to push players to purchase this remaster. We will still procrastinate by pointing out that we do not have the figures on the other supports, this just gives us an idea of the reception of the game. However, the latter is sold at an attractive price, €19.99, and has rather positive feedback on Steam (for 223 evaluations). Enough to seduce, but nothing works.

It remains to be seen what happens with Beyond Good & Evil 2. Ubisoft must be in a cold sweat all the same since the enthusiasm around its license is at first glance not as strong as expected. Not to mention that the game cost an arm and a leg and development is still not finished. Expectations are therefore very high, and we hope that we will be treated to a very nice surprise upon release. We cross fingers !
