The PS5 “Slim” is Released in France

Sony had not given any launch date for the PS5 “Slim”, which replaces the 2020 model. The first stocks will be available from this Friday, November 24.

On November 20, 2020, Sony launched the PlayStation 5. A little over three years later, the console gave way to a new, more compact version (which is not officially called “Slim”). It will be available from November 24, 2023, still in two versions: with or without a disk reader. There is still a little subtlety this time, since the drive in question is removable. It can be purchased later, at a price of €119.99, or withdrawn.

Remember that this new PlayStation 5 has a volume reduced by 30%, which still makes it a very large console, but much less than the previous model. Eventually, we will only find it on the shelves. The price is the same as before: €550 for the normal version and €450 for the one without reader. Note that the 2020 PlayStation 5 is sold at a bargain price during the Black Friday period, that is to say at €430. If you don’t care about design (and you have the space), you know which option to choose.

Three things to know about the PS5 “Slim”

The same power, the same catalog

Please note, the “Slim” PS5 is not more powerful than the 2020 PS5. If the design has changed, the characteristics are the same. Both consoles run the same games, with the same performance. This is simply a cosmetic revision. If the new PS5 were more powerful, it would surely be called something else, for example PS5 Pro.

A little more storage

There is still a small change inside the PS5: the storage, in SSD, goes from 825 GB to 1 TB. This will not revolutionize your use, but these few extra GB will never be too much to install a few more games. Of course, you can always expand the available space with an additional SSD.

Vertical stock is optional

The PlayStation 5 can be displayed vertically or horizontally. Nothing changes from that point of view. Except for one detail: the console is no longer delivered with a multifunction base. In the packaging, we find two small transparent plastic wedges to hold the PS5 horizontally. Do you want to make it stand up safely? You will have to invest in an — elegant — Vertical Stand for €30.
