The PS5 Prevails in a Double Slap to Xbox Series X|S

Most console gamers will have to choose between a PlayStation 5 and an Xbox Series X|S – at least if they don't just want to play Nintendo games. New sales figures from Europe now show that the PS5 dominates, but Sony still can't be completely happy.

Xbox Series X|S falls far behind the PS5 in Europe

In May 2024, Sony was able to 300,126 PS5 consoles to the gamer. This means that there are now a total of 19.34 million consoles in European living rooms. The Nintendo Switch is in second place. In May, the Japanese publisher sold 158,473 units, making a total of 36.06 million. The Xbox Series X|S ended up in third place with 68,592 consoles sold in May and 7.71 million consoles sold in total. This continues the trend of the Xbox falling further and further behind the PS5.

However, the bronze medal is not the only bitter pill for Microsoft. Compared to May 2023, sales figures fell by a full 42.1 percentThe PS5 is also selling worse than last year, but only 9.7 percent. The Nintendo Switch is seeing the biggest drop at 57.7 percent, but this should be bearable since a new console is almost on the way.
