Sony has just rolled out the first update of the year for the PlayStation 5. Here's what's improved with version 24.01-08.60.00 of the console. Small spoiler, it's a lot more than usual.

The rumors around the PS5 Pro never end, but the models currently on the market continue their little lives. Sony regularly updates its machines, whether to improve their performance, stability, correct security vulnerabilities or even add new features. On this Wednesday, January 24, 2024, the PlayStation 5 and its different models welcome a new update which brings some changes.

New update for PlayStation 5

The PS5 goes to version 24.01-08.60.00. The first update of the year is therefore available for download now. No special manipulation to do, as usual, it will launch automatically once your console is turned on. It won't take long, even if this update is a little heavier and more generous than the routine patches that Sony has accustomed us to. Allow 1,186 GB of free space on your PlayStation 5 to install it. This new update therefore not only improves the performance and stability of the system, but also brings some changes, particularly on the Party side by allowing you to restart your usual chats in the blink of an eye. Sony has also made pairing its PULSE wireless headphones simpler, for example by allowing you to switch them from a PC to your PlayStation 5 more easily. Patch notes for PS5 version 24.01-08.60.00

  • We added new features to Parties
    • In the Party tab, you can now see the list of Parties you have joined in the past. You can easily restart a Party by selecting it from the list [Récent]
  • We have updated the peripheral software of the PULSE Elite Wireless Headset and PULSE Explore Wireless Earbuds.
    • You can now use the sound equalization feature.
    • You can now use the sidetone feature, which allows you to better hear your own voice during a voice chat.
  • If a PULSE Elite Wireless Headset or PULSE Explore Earbuds are nearby, a notification will appear so you can quickly connect. This notification will allow you to switch the connection from your PC to your PlayStation 5.
  • We have improved the performance and stability of the system software.
  • We have improved the messages and the ergonomics of certain screens.
