First hints of a possible successor to the yet to be released Galaxy Ring have emerged, more specifically, Samsung has received a patent approval for how 91mobiles reported.

Why this is important: According to this, the supposedly new ring will not only have a new shape, Samsung could even build a small display into the outer layer.

  • The teaser shows a circular ring with a square outer surface on which one or even two displays could be integrated.
  • All necessary sensors are located in the inner layer.
  • The patent images show that the ring can be used to measure stress, sleep, blood oxygen, ECG, temperature and more.
  • An acceleration sensor and a fingerprint sensor could also be integrated into the ring.
  • Bluetooth, NFC, Zigbee and Wi-Fi are also on board.

However, the biggest and most exciting innovation is probably the display, which could show the battery level, vital data and messages, for example.

Important: This is a patent application. Many of these designs never see the light of day, so the South Korean manufacturer might as well abandon the idea.

However, with the Galaxy Ring, Samsung is introducing a completely new product category into its portfolio and is unlikely to give up on the idea anytime soon.

It is doubtful whether the patent actually refers to the Galaxy Ring 2. However, it is very likely that Samsung is already working on a successor.

What can the first Galaxy Ring do?

Samsung's Unpacked event will take place on July 10, 2024At the keynote, Samsung will most likely present the ring with all the details and thus dispel all the rumors.

Initial leaks show that the first batch will come with several features, including stress monitoring, as well as the measurement of skin temperature, heart rate variability, activity, heart rate, snoring detection and much more.

The battery life should be up to nine days depending on usage.

An optional, paid subscription model is also being discussed. According to this, a monthly fee would have to be paid to unlock all of the ring's functions. Whether this rumor turns out to be true remains to be seen until the event.
