Serious alternative to the Steam Deck, the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme was very well received on the market, despite some slight flaws and a slightly high price position. It must be said that it was launched at a price of €799 when it was marketed.

Now, it is priced at €549.99 for the launch of the 2024 summer sales, making it its best price since its launch. Better yet, with code 15DES129, it goes to €534.99. What is the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme worth?

The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme has a screen which is presented as a 7-inch IPS LCD panel with a definition of 1920 x 1080 pixels, surpassing the Steam Deck which at the time was satisfied with a definition of 1280 x 800 pixels. This screen also offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz, running under Windows, with the ability to play Steam, Epic Games Store, Riot Games and Game Pass games.

It is equipped with a Z1 Extreme chip developed by AMD, based on Zen 4 and RDNA3 technologies. This chip includes an 8-core, 16-thread APU, capable of going up to 5.10 GHz. It is associated with a Radeon GPU with 12 computing units (CU) and 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM clocked at 6400 MHz. This hardware allows the console to handle 1080p games in average quality at 60 FPS without difficulty.

Regarding autonomy, the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme offers varied performance depending on the mode of use. In Silent mode, with various optimizations, the console can operate for up to 6 hours. However, in Turbo mode, battery life can drop to around an hour, depending on the game, screen brightness and chosen resolution. Comparatively, the standard version of the ROG Ally offers better battery life.
