Taisho Japan’s ‘Hirahirahihiru’ Launches on Steam: Renya Setoguchi Explores Battle Against Undead Disease

Aniplex’s novel game production brand ANIPLEX.EXE announced on November 17th, “Hira Hira Hi Hill” has started distribution. The compatible platform is PC (Steam/DMM GAMES/DLsite), and the regular price is 2970 yen including tax. A sale is being held to coincide with the release, and you can purchase it for 10% off at 2,673 yen. The sale period ends on November 23rd on Steam (the store page says it ends on the 29th), and on DMM GAMES/DLsite until 23:59 on November 28th.

“Hirahirahihiru” is a novel game set in the fictional Taisho era that depicts people fighting against a disease called “Hirahirahiru” that causes dead people to come back to life. In the world of this work, there have been many cases of dead people being brought back to life since ancient times. Resurrected humans, also known as “hihiru” or “kusare,” lose their intelligence and cognitive abilities, and their bodies begin to decay. Once revered, they came to be shunned over time, and in the Taisho era they were treated as medical objects.

Masamitsu Chikusa, one of the main characters in this work, is the son of a noble family and a young doctor with a strong passion for treating patients with wind fever. In this work, Masamitsu Chigusa is commissioned by Shuhei Katori, an authority on wind fever in Japan, to investigate wind fever patients across Japan. Another main character, Takeo Tenma, comes to have a strong connection with Fukushi due to an unexpected chance. The story of people fighting against erectile dysfunction in the fictional Taisho era is told through the perspectives of two people.

 

This work is a novel game work. The story is centered around the text by Renya Setoguchi, and includes illustrations as you read through the story. During the story, sometimes heavy choices appear. One of the characteristics of the game is that it deals with heavy themes, such as the depiction of people whose knowledge and memory deteriorate and their bodies rot due to “pyrexia” from the beginning of the game. Also, in terms of production, according to the Steam store page, this work seems to support full audio.

In the production of this work, Renya Setoguchi is in charge of planning and scenario. He is a scenario writer who has worked on scenarios such as “CARNIVAL”, “SWAN SONG”, and “MUSICUS!”. He is in charge of writing and directing his most recent work, “BLACK SHEEP TOWN”, which will be released in September 2022. At the time of writing, the game received 98% positive reviews out of 81 on Steam, giving it a status of “Very Positive”. Judging from user reviews, it seems that the carefully drawn scenario and beautiful story are leading to high ratings.
