Solving Igon’s Quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Igon is a suffering NPC in the DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree” in Elden Ring and can easily be overlooked as he is always crouched on the ground. Igon's quest sends you on the hunt for the mighty dragon Bayle and also has to do with the priestess of the Dragon Communion. The complete walkthrough for the quest can be found here.

Start Igon's Quest

For the first time you can Igon near the place of grace “Waypoint at the colonnade” You can reach this place by walking north from the starting area in the Gravefield Plain over the Ellac Bridge and then following the path to the right in front of Ensis Castle up to the high pillar.

As you approach the Place of Mercy, you cannot ignore Igon's moaning and wailing. He crouches on the path just a few meters from the Place of Mercy.

If you talk to him, you won't get much out of him. He talks about a Bayle and how he wants revenge on him. Then follow the path on which Igon is lying further south. This leads past the slope on the right where the tall pillar stands. Dragon statues line the path, which makes it easier for you to find your way around.

Crossing the Dragon Pit

On the way, the ancient dragon man will probably invade your world. However, he won't leave any loot behind if you defeat him. Follow the path to the end to reach the entrance to the Dragon Pit dungeon. You must go through this to reach a new area on the other side.

On the other side, follow the path and you will come to a large area with dragons. You can defeat them or just ignore them if you want. The path splits here to the north and south. First go south to the large altar of the Dragon Communion. Then continue north with Igon's quest.

Talk to Priestess of Dragon Communion

Once you reach the altar, you can speak to the Priestess of the Dragon Communion to the right of the red flame. Exhaust all of their dialogues and choose the dialogue option “Devoure Dragon Essence”. This will give you the “Blessing of the Ancient Dragon”, a consumable item that gives you a buff that increases all damage resistance. You can use this in the later fight against Bayle. Unfortunately, the effect cannot be stacked with other buffs such as the “Golden Oath”, which provides better protection than the blessing.

After speaking to the priestess, you can pray at the altar on the right by the red flame and perform the dragon communion ritual. Here you can learn the new invocation “Ghost Flame Breath” for three dragon hearts. Then run north again and follow the other path at the intersection towards the northeast (see map above).

Defeat Dragon Duo

The path leads you over a rope bridge and a few ghost springs to the foot of the Blade Peak. Here you will eventually come to a larger area where two dragons are fighting. In order for the quest to continue, both dragons must be defeated.

You should hold back at first and wait until one dragon has defeated the other. This way, you can defeat the remaining, weakened dragon relatively quickly. You can also call on Spirit Ashes for support here.

Talk to Igon & get Igon's crooked fingers

Once both dragons are dead, you will hear Igon laughing in the distance. He is sitting at the eastern end of the area, in the middle of the path that leads further up to Blade Peak.

Exhaust all dialogues with Igon to get the Quest item “Igon’s Crooked Fingers” He asks you to use it to summon him in the fight against Bayle so that he can support you.

Ascent to the Klingen summit

Then continue to follow the path behind Igon. There is a long passage with ghost springs and rugged paths that lead upwards. On the way you must also complete another boss fight against the dragon Senessax in order to continue. On the way to the top you will also find the solution to the painting puzzle “Area of the Dragons”.

Once you have completed the climb, activate the Place of Mercy “Spire of Blade Peak” and prepare yourself for one of the most difficult boss fights of the DLC against “Bayle the Terrible”.

Defeat Bayle

Bayle is a beefy dragon and unfortunately you cannot use your spectral steed to avoid his long-range attacks. Bayle is perhaps the strongest boss in the DLC besides the final boss. If you're having trouble with him, first collect as many Scadu Tree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes as you can to strengthen your character, then return here to try again.

Bayle is susceptible to frost and scarlet rotso use weapons, spells and invocations with these elements to increase your chances of victory. And of course you can now also summon Igon to help you in this fight. You will find his golden summon symbol on the ground shortly after entering the arena. So you don't have to actively use Igon's crooked finger.

A notice: Many players report that it is not necessary to summon Igon in this fight to successfully complete the quest. In both cases, you will receive all the rewards at the end.

Obtain Igon's weapon and armor

Once Bayle is defeated, return to the foot of the Blade Peak. You will now find Igon's corpse here and can loot his weapon (Igon's Greatbow), his armor (Igon's helmet, Igon's armor, Igon's gauntlets, Igon's loincloth) and his sound pearl. You can hand the pearl in to the twin maiden shells in the Round Table Fortress to buy Igon's harpoons. You can fire these with a greatbow.

The values of Igon's armor and weapon can be seen in the following screenshots:

Get Flowerstone Hammer & Priestess Heart

If you now return to the Altar of the Dragon Communion, the priestess will have disappeared. Instead, you can collect the weapon “Flowerstone Hammer” and the Priestess' Heart. The latter transforms you into the priestess’s dragon form. However, this only works if you undress first and then use the item. The dragon form strengthens the invocations of the dragon cult. You can only transform back into human form after using it if you die.

At the altar, you can choose the option “Have communion with Bayle” and redeem Bayle’s heart for either the invocation “Bayle’s Tyranny” or “Bayle’s Flamebolt”.
