Microsoft and Amazon partner for Xbox Game Pass

Xbox has just announced a surprising partnership with Amazon to further democratize the Game Pass. Thus, it is now possible to access the Game Pass and especially Microsoft's Cloud Gaming service through Amazon's Fire TV tool. The Fire TV Stick is a device that more or less allows you to transform your TV into a connected screen in order to access different web services and applications, such as Netflix, Prime Video and others.

With this partnership, Fire TV Stick users will be able to subscribe to the Game Pass Ultimate offer and thus access the entire catalog of the offer via Cloud Gaming. In short, play Game Pass games on TV without owning an Xbox console. A more than attractive offer for more than one player, a launch that Ashley McKissick, the head of the Xbox Cloud Gaming service, welcomed.

The expansion of Xbox gaming to Fire TV devices gives gamers a new option to enjoy their favorite games on devices they already own. For those who don’t own an Xbox console, (this offer) is an affordable and convenient way to get started. (…)

A surprising partnership

Note that the offer is available in all territories where Xbox Cloud Gaming is accessible and that for the moment, only users of the Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max have access to it. The offer could however extend to the cheapest Fire TV Sticks. In the meantime, the partnership began a few days ago, as confirmed by the French Twitter/X account of the video game company.

Obviously, this partnership benefits both parties. While Xbox is delighted with this launch, Amazon seems just as pleased with this collaboration and certainly sees it as a way to strengthen its offering.

We are committed to enabling customers to access their favorite entertainment experiences with Fire TV. We are excited to work with Microsoft to bring the Xbox app to select Fire TV devices so our customers can enjoy a rich library of games, allowing them to play without having to own a console – Daniel Rausch, Vice President of Fire TV and Alexa.

This partnership therefore strengthens both camps, but may seem surprising given the past history of both firms. In the Cloud domain, Amazon and Microsoft have been battling to sign valuable contracts with the government. This time the hatchet seems to have been buried.
