A welcome return

Players all remember the traumatic (for some) introductory scene of Resident Evil, released in 1996 on PlayStation 1. This cult survival horror game was ported to Saturn and PC in 1997. These versions are difficult to obtain today, so Capcom made the right decision by making the game available on our dear latest generation PCs.

It's on GOG that the game is reborn, and this, without DRM! When you buy a game without DRM, it will be yours, no way for the publisher to remove your access to the title. And the arrival of Resident Evil from 1996 on PC will therefore not contain any DRM. The release of this port had already leaked thanks to Gematsu who had noticed that the game had received a PEGI classification for PC. Now it's official, you can get the original Resident Evil from 1996 on PC via the GOG sales platform at the price of 10 euros.

Capcom worked with GOG to best adapt this 25-year-old version. This port is available with its 4 localizations (French, English, German and Japanese). Especially since it has features to improve the player's visual comfort such as anti-aliasing or windowed mode. The cherry on the cake: the current controllers are supported by the game.

Finally a collection

Nobody saw it coming! On the GOG website, it is possible to purchase the first game alone, but a bundle is already available for purchase for the sum of €24.99. This includes the first three games released in 1996, 1998 and 1999 respectively. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis are not yet available in this all-games bundle. But the description says: “Resident Evil 2 and 3 will be added to your library with the purchase of the three-game bundle and will be available upon release. Both titles are expected to be released by 2024.”

Finally, for the return of this classic that marked the survival horror genre, Capcom has created a video in partnership with YouTuber The Sphere Hunter to introduce newcomers to the history of this world-famous franchise. Especially since some GOG developers were interviewed on the ports produced, the video is available here.
