One of the next PS5 exclusives, from a beloved studio, confirms all its ambitions. It's going to hit hard and it might hurt.

Concord will be Sony Interactive Entertainment's upcoming PS5 exclusive for 2024. A 5-on-5 multiplayer FPS that draws its inspiration from Overwatch and even Destiny. The first feedback has come in, and apparently, it would be a nice surprise. If you're one of the curious, Concord will be playable for free before its release starting in July. As we know, PlayStation still has many cartridges in stock, which are struggling to show themselves. And among them, there is the next game from an independent studio bought in 2021 by the manufacturer.

A big PS5 exclusive is getting a little more detailed

Even three years after its release, Returnal remains one of the best PS5 games. And for some, it's even the best exclusive to own. A gem from Housemarque, a much-loved studio behind Dead Nation, Super Stardust, Resogun, Nex Machina, and more. Since Returnal's launch, which lived up to internal expectations, the Finnish studio has been given the go-ahead to move and think big. The company wants to create “one of the most advanced video game headquarters in the Nordics by the end of 2024”. “These new facilities will not only be a testament to our rich gaming heritage, but will also be a beacon of innovation and creativity in the northernmost capital.” Housemarque added in a statement in 2023.

What is the studio preparing in their corner? A new PS5 license with the appearance of Returnal since we will find certain elements that made the charm and success of the game. “I'm very excited to take these elements and see how they can fit into the story of our new intellectual property.” said Eevi Korhonen, senior narrative designer, in an interview with VGC.

News for the next game from the Returnal studio

Today, we learn several things thanks to a job offer. Apparently the successor to Returnal, which is not yet Returnal 2, will still run under Unreal Engine. And ambitions will not be revised downwards since Housemarque clearly indicates that their PS5 game is a AAA. “At Housemarque, you will be responsible for the design, prototyping and integration of enemies for a AAA game. We are looking for a senior game designer who will focus on enemy and boss design for our next big game” can be read on the job offer posted on LinkedIn. The bosses will still be there, and if they are as well-crafted as in Returnal, we can't wait. It remains to be seen whether the roguelite component will be retained or not.
