Days gone 2? Still not?

As the years go by, hope for a Days Gone sequel remains, at least in the minds of the most optimistic. Original creative director John Garvin falls into that category, while others, like former game director Jeff Ross, are more pessimistic. Via X (Twitter), Garvin encouraged fans to “never say never” about a possible Days Gone 2, reminding anyone who will listen that a full synopsis was already ready before his departure from Bend Studio in 2020. He even suggested that Sony might rehire the team to work on the project.

Never say never… Sony management might change their mind and bring @JakeRocket and I back to make a sequel.
to make a sequel…I'm not holding my breath…but I have to say I had a complete plan for the sequel, and a world map that expanded the game, all done

Ross, on the other hand, seems to have completely lost hope. The director earlier tweeted a collage of PlayStation characters devoid of the presence of Days Gone hero Deacon St. John, and interpreted the image as a sign that Sony has no interest in the sequel. “A lot of people still ask me if there will ever be a sequel to Days Gone, so I offer you this poster as proof that it will never happen,” he says, also asserting that Hermen Hulst, co-CEO from Sony Interactive Entertainment, has never been a big fan of the license.

A lot of people still ask me if there will ever be a sequel to Days Gone, so I submit this poster as proof that it will never happen. Sony executives like Hermen have never been fans, and so you'll never hear about it at PlayStation State of Play, not today or ever.

Remember that a petition with more than 210,000 signatures was launched to support the project for a sequel to Days Gone. Unfortunately, Bend Studio is currently working on another project, as job postings suggesting a new online game suggest. Note that a Days Gone film is, however, still on the table.

A new IP for Bend Studio

Last January, Bend Studio announced that they were working on a new open-world multiplayer IP for PS5, marking their first game of this type. Some are hoping it will be an open-world zombie survival game set in the Days Gone universe, building on the latter's systems. In any case, Bend requires candidates with experience in the field of service games: “Hands-on game development experience in leadership roles shipping AAA games live“, we can read on the advertisement. The position sought is also intended for a person with experience in the “redefining traditional game development studios focused on 'boxed products' towards live service development studios in a key leadership role.
