Amused by a Hard Drive joke, this modder has developed a hardcore mod for Stardew Valley that makes the experience very dangerous.

The mod from hell

The lives of Stardew Valley players aren't always easy! Called “Hardcore mode”, a brand new mod does not modify the gameplay in itself, but has a formidable particularity: it will delete your save if you check the Stardew Valley wiki for any cheatsthe game's most valuable community resource. The modder, who goes by the name Sylvie Nightshade, created the mod after a satirical article published a few hours earlier on the Hard Drive website: “It does this by scanning the title of every open window on your computer and erasing anything with 'Stardew Valley Wiki' in its title,” Nightshade explains in the description.

As we know, playing Stardew Valley without using the wiki can be a real challenge: the site is full of crucial information about the game: between plant growth periods, watering times, crop selling prices, villager gift preferences, fish locations, and much more. The harcdore mode then scans the title of each window open on your computer. If the title “Stardew Valley Wiki” is detected, your save is mercilessly erased. The mod also benefits from some recent updates from the creator: “I have since updated it so that instead of simply deleting your save, it also closes the browser window in which it finds the wiki just to add insult to injury.” In short, if this update is more of a joke, it also tests your knowledge of the game and your ability to progress without resorting to guides.

On March 19, update 1.6 brought a breath of fresh air to Pelican Town. On the menu: three new festivals, new items, additional dialogues, a new type of farm, enriched end-game content and the possibility of playing multiplayer with up to 8 players on PC. ConcernedApe, the game's creator, doesn't seem ready to stop there. He recently discussed the possibility of continuing to update Stardew Valley indefinitely. “I always end up making a new Stardew Valley update.” For him, this game is “his life's work” and he is determined to make it perfect.
