Xbox services were hit by a massive outage that brought everything down for many hours. What happened?

We recently reported that Sony had several issues with its services. First, the application linked to the loyalty program was struggling. First unusable, then badly damaged, it ended up being largely restored. That's when the PSN had an outage that lasted between a few minutes and a few hours for some users. And now, yesterday, it's Xbox's turn to face very big problems on its Xbox Live.

Widespread outage knocks out Xbox services

All Xbox services were inaccessible last night for us and this for a good part of the night.. A massive and widespread outage that paralyzed players. Virtually all features were HS, whether it was online play, accessibility to certain games and applications, messaging services… impossible to use the live features of your Xbox Series.

A breakdown quickly identified by Microsoft, which quickly got on the case. It still took more than 5 hours for technical support to correct the situation. At the time of writing, everything is normally under control, even if some residual problems clearly still persist. At least, this is what a handful of users are reporting on social networks.

Many players have also complained about this policy where everything is connected. Once again, the issue of mandatory connection for certain games or services has come up again. With a breakdown like this, almost everything you own becomes unusable, even if you paid for it, of course. A bill that also does not take into account the time lost during this type of incident. So many little things that tickle the nerves of users every time online services go to pot, regardless of the brand.

Either way, in theory you should no longer have any problems using Xbox services. Support said everything was back to normal.. Microsoft has not communicated about the reasons for this general outage. We therefore do not know if it was a malicious act, or a real technical problem. So keep an eye on it.
