A link that no one saw coming

Directors of great films like James Cameron, Christopher Nolan or Steven Spielberg (who is discussed here) take great pleasure in hiding various references and subtleties in their feature films. From a simple nod to the desire to give meaning to their universes, these small details do not go unnoticed by some and fans are delighted to discover them several years after the release of the films. Steven Spielberg is no exception to this rule. The director behind many science fiction films explains in an interview with The New Yorker that Jurassic Park, one of Spielberg's biggest hits, has a secret link to one of his first feature films: Jaws.

I'm not ashamed to say that with Jurassic Park, I just wanted to make a good sequel to Jaws. Only on dry land.

Although it is difficult to imagine a connection between these two films, for Steven Spielberg there is indeed one. Jaws would serve as a premise for Jurassic Park according to the directorAs a reminder, the famous dinosaur science fiction film generated more than 900 million dollars at the international box office and the director is said to have made a profit of more than 250 million dollars with this film alone.

While the renowned filmmaker was in the middle of shooting his film on the horrors of Schindler's List, at the same time, Universal Pictures, which was in charge of producing the science fiction film, contacted him to give him the task of directing the feature film. The latter accepted their offer, but on one condition: that he could continue filming his successful film about the horrors of World War II. A decision that was the right one for Steven Spielberg given that his dramatic film was awarded 7 Oscars.

Today, the filmmaker continues his profession and is in the middle of writing his next feature film, the subject of which will be UFOs.. We will have to wait to see the film in theaters which will obviously be (once again) a science fiction film. The last film directed by Spielberg is The Fabelmans released in 2022 was not a box office success. However, the feature film received excellent feedback from the specialized press, earning it a score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
