A promising trailer

The trailer for “Batman: Caped Crusader,” available at the top of the article, offers a glimpse of the upcoming series. With a graphic style strongly reminiscent of 1992's “Batman: The Animated Series,” The new series is anchored in a retro 1940s aesthetic, reflecting Batman's first appearance in Detective Comics #27. The trailer highlights a mix of old and new villains, including Catwoman, Firefly, Clayface, the Penguin, Two-Face, Onomatopoeia. In addition to this diversity of characters, the images suggest a mature and dark series. Moreover, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly with Bruce Timm and James Tucker, we learn more about the characters, the universe and the tone brought to the animated series. The goal for them was to not repeat what Batman: The Animated Series offered.

James and I are both really big fans of the films from that era – the 40s – so we decided to really lean into that in terms of the clothes, the cars, the architecture and the level of technology.

For fans, this trailer sounds like a deliverance. Indeed, then announced for the first time in 2021 with a teaser in the form of a poster, The animated series almost didn't see the light of day after HBO Max abandoned the project (today called Max). The animated series was then picked up by Amazon Prime Video for two seasons.

A new chapter for Gotham

Batman: Caped Crusader transports viewers to a corrupt Gotham City where crime reigns and citizens live in constant fear. Bruce Wayne, played by Hamish Linklater, transforms into Batman after a tragedy, launching a lonely crusade for justice. The series also introduces unexpected new allies within the GCPD and City Hall. However, Batman's heroic actions lead to unforeseen and deadly consequences. It's also worth noting that some characters will be rewritten, like Harley Quinn who will also make her return without being the Joker's famous girlfriend. There are now only a month and a half left for the community to discover the rebirth of Batman on our screens!
