Brave New World Explodes Its Budget

The only Marvel film on the bill this year, Deadpool and Wolverine was supposed to be accompanied by Captain America: Brave New World, the first film dedicated to the leader of the Avengers with Anthony Mackie in the title role. But while the filming of this feature film had been completed last year for a release set for this year, the project was finally pushed back to February 2025. For good reason: Marvel decided to rewrite the script and shoot new sequences until next August.

While the initial budget was estimated at around $275 million, this new work would have cost between $75 million and $100 million according to a source contacted by World of Reel. Brave New World is now breaking all the counters and could do a lot of harm to the House of Ideas if it fails.

A huge risk

With a budget of $375 million, Captain America: Brave New World has no room for error. But it still seems difficult to imagine the film as a huge success. Even if Anthony Mackie perfectly embodied the Falcon in the previous Avengers installments, the actor must now succeed Chris Evans, the face of Captain America for many years, alone.

In addition, we also learn that the script was initially co-written by Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman, the latter having served as writing director and executive producer on the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The series having done relatively well, the idea of continuing with the same team seemed the right one. Except that since then, Marvel has hired Matthew Orton who took care of the additional sequences, but would also have largely reworked the script. We obviously hope that these many changes will guarantee the success of the film.
