After more than 10 years without an opus, the Test Drive Unlimited license is back. And during the Steam NéoFest, we were able to get our hands on the demo of the latest episode, subtitled Solar Crown. We'll tell you what we think about it right away in our JV Fast!

Fun arcade gameplay

As in all self-respecting racing games, it is the driving that interests us first and foremost. And in Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crownthis aspect finds a good middle ground between Simulation and Arcade. Quite flexible, the gameplay is permissive and does not penalize the player for the slightest error. Even with all the assists turned off and driving powerful, cranky vehicles, the game doesn't feel punishing.

When playing with a steering wheel, the sensations are good and the force feedback is pleasant and well-measured. Just like the gear changes, which are also fluid and natural. What is lacking, however, are the first-person animations. Our character barely moves his hands on the steering wheel, even when steering or counter-steering to the extreme. A flaw that inevitably spoils the immersion, forcing some to change cameras.

Great cars to maneuver

Another important point, the different car models in the game are quite successful. This demo allowed us to see more than one, and each time, the silhouettes and their reproduction were intended to be faithful to the original. Precious vehicles, what's more, because the title's almost RPG system pushes us to get attached to our cars. When a new car is obtained, You will have to drive it for hours to improve it to the maximum before passing for another. A pleasant progression, which forces you to really invest if you want to increase the horses under the hood.

After more than 10 years without a new opus, this racing game series is back on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series!

Finally, the game is developed by the French studio KT Racing and published by Nacon. Already available for pre-order for the price of €49.99, the title is scheduled for September 12, 2024 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If, like us, the title intrigues you and you want to know more, we invite you to discover our JV Fast available at the top of the page.
