Elden Ring is receiving a new update that further addresses difficulty and brings some fixes to performance issues.

Elden Ring is too hard, Elden Ring is ultimately too easy… Since the release of the Shadows of the Erdtree DLC, that's all we hear. At launch, the game was panned for performance issues and a difficulty deemed too high. A patch later, some now consider it too easy, while players point out game mechanics that were present from the beginning.

It is assumed that the first feedback was therefore somewhat rushed, but in any case, FromSoftware is doing everything it can to pamper its foal and make everyone agree. This is still the case here with a new update that once again touches on balancing and therefore, on the difficulty, but which also tackles the performance problems encountered on the different platforms.

Elden Ring is getting some more balancing tweaks

Let's talk about difficulty first. Elden Ring is a game with a high challenge, we know that, but it also allows great freedom of approach in order to make things easier or not. This is also one of its strengths since it opens up to a wider audience, more than any other Soulslike. But for many, that's not enough. The developers therefore tackled the blessings in the previous patch and had subsequently teased us with additional changes to certain equipment and key enemies.

A ton of fixes in the process

Then it's a rain of fixes that falls on the Realm of Shadows. The Elden Ring DLC had some issues to fix and a good part of them will be with this new update. We're talking here mostly about bug fixes for some skills that didn't always work correctly in certain conditions, or animation issues. Nothing that should drastically change the way you play, but it's always something.

In the major fixes, however, we can note that a bug that gave more stats to some weapons has been fixed. Which means that in theory, you risk losing a little stats on the following weapons:

  • Smithscript Dagger
  • Smithscript Circus
  • Smithscript Axe
  • Smithscript's Great Hammer
  • Smithscript Spear
  • Golem Fist
  • Smithscript Shield

Other than that, the fixes touch on everything from simple damage calculation bugs to sometimes difficult triggering of certain abilities, but nothing will shake up your habits.

A solution for Elden Ring performance issues on PS5 and PC

What should do you a lot of good, however, are the improvements made to performance on almost all platforms. FromSoftware announces fixes for unstable performance, but in reality, we are more on tips to correct existing and apparently still unresolved problems.

On PS5, framerate issues can apparently be fixed by restoring the database from the console's safe mode.. Just that. No more information on the subject other than this manipulation. During our test session, however, we had no issues with the framerate on our side. So it could be that this is a rarer problem than expected.

Solutions for PC gamers

Finally, On PC, the studio reaffirms that it is indeed Ray Tracing that is the problem.e to some players and that the latter would sometimes activate without us wanting it to. No definitive solution here either, but a simple tip shared by the studio: remember to deactivate the option from System > Graphics Settings > Ray Tracing Quality. Finally, for those who come face to face with the message “Inappropriate activity detected” even though they are not cheating, you must check the integrity of the game files and then restart it.

And for those who still have framerate issuesFromSoftware reminds that a bug causes precious frames per second to be lost when using a mouse control software in the background. It is therefore advisable to disable them before playing or restarting your game once it's done.

No miracle solution, but some tricks. It remains to be seen whether the studio will be able to fix these problems once and for all or not.
