Nine years after the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, fans are discovering a hidden ending that was swept under the rug by the developers. This reveal, orchestrated by a modder known as glassfish777 and detailed by YouTuber xLetalis, offers a new perspective on the game's outcome. In this alternate ending, Geralt wakes up in a tent, being treated by two doctors, after his fight against Eredin.. This restored scene shows the doctors betting on his survival, with Geralt responding incisively, “I'll take that bet.” As he leaves the tent, he encounters Yennefer, and the dialogue varies depending on the player's relationship with either Yennefer or Triss Merigold.
What does this ending tell?
The restored version also reveals new interactions. For example, Geralt can ask Yennefer about the outcome of the war, and she explains that the Skelligans retreated after Crach an Craite's death, an event that was barely mentioned in the original game. Geralt then attends Crach's funeral, crossing paths with Triss along the way. Again, the dialogues vary depending on who became king or queen of Skellige. Another scene shows a conversation between Yennefer, Triss, and Geralt, with the appearance of the Sorceress' Lodge. This secret society of powerful witches, briefly mentioned in the game, plays a crucial role in this alternate ending. Yennefer betrays the Lodge to save Ciri, selling her to the Nilfgaardian Emperor Emhyr var Emreis, who appears intent on eliminating them.
CD Projekt leaves a very useful tool to the community
Geralt's decisions in the face of Yennefer's betrayal lead to various repercussions. Regardless of the player's choice, Geralt does not seem to approve of this betrayal. Fans debate the relevance of this ending and why it was removed. The developers might have cut it for pacing reasons, as this intense sequence immediately follows the final battle and precedes another action scene where Geralt and Yennefer fight monsters emerging from portals.
The discovery of this deleted content follows the release of REDkit, an official modding tool for Witcher 3, launched in May 2024. It allows fans to create or modify quests and existing content. The reappearance of this hidden ending opens the door to other potential revelations, While CD Projekt has mentioned the existence of cut missions related to Iorveth from The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, raising hopes that fans will be able to restore them as well.
