Meanwhile on Earth

Space is big and mysterious. And it's even more suspicious when Frank, an astronaut, disappears during an excursion up there, just like that, poof. Three years later, her sister Elsa still hasn't really digested the news (we understand) and now she finds herself contacted by an unknown life form, which claims to be able to bring her brother back to Earth. From there, everything goes wrong: this thriller, which is still a bit horrific and has a dark atmosphere, is clearly one to watch closely, especially for its director, Jérémy Clapin, who also directed the excellent “I Lost My Body” in 2019. Hold on tight, because the trailer promises a breathtaking film.

Despicable Me 4

“Despicable Me” really blew up at the box office, so it's no surprise to see Illumination return with a fourth installment. Gru makes his big comeback here and this time he's a super agent from Lynx's Vigilance Agency. With his childish team (literally) and in particular Gru Junior, his latest offspring with a strong character, they will have to thwart the plans of Maxime le Mal and his femme fatale Valentina. Well, basically, we are on a funny and very entertaining animated film, which this time draws fully on the James Bond side for its plot and its rather funky atmosphere. Surely something to have a good time.

Only the River Flows

Asian cinema knows how to do thrillers, no doubt about it given the number of slaps we've already taken in the past. Head to China with Only the River Flows, a dark thriller that sets its context in 1990s: Ma Zhe, head of the criminal police, must solve a triple homicide in a small town. Easier said than done as you might expect and our hero will quickly being confronted with very dark events that one would not wish on anyone.A film that promises to be effective in its genre: we hope that it will also manage to offer something original.

Longlegs

Okay, we're still not on a “feel good” film, but on the other hand, if you like psychological thrillers and horror films, you're in the right place. Let's not kid ourselves: Longlegs is shaping up to be one of the most interesting projects of July, but also one of the most disturbing. We follow the pretty creepy investigation of an FBI agent tasked with finding a serial killer… before her journey leads her into some seriously creepy occult delusions. We've seen a lot of feature films with this kind of pitch, but Longlegs looks… different. Its darkness, its finely thought-out shots of trauma, its polished sound design and the acting of Maika Monroe (Watcher, Villains) promise an intense and polished experience. In addition, the announced presence of Nicolas Cage in the cast, who does not appear for a second in the trailer, which makes things definitely intriguing.

To The Moon

Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum on the same poster, here is a rather unusual duo that arouses curiosity. The first plays Kelly Jones, a marketing expert whose goal is to restore NASA's image in the 60s; the second slips into the skin of Cole Davis, the director of the Apollo 11 mission. And when the U.S. government decides the project is too important to cancel, Davis tasks Kelly Jones… with designing a fake moon landing to be broadcast on television, should it fail. To The Moon is a brand new film produced by Apple TV with Greg Berlanti directing, the showrunner of season 2 of You and the director of “Love, Simon”. Pretty cool on paper, we're waiting to see the final result.

Twisters

This is a film that we are eagerly awaiting. Because yes, in the 90s, Twister, the first of the name, was a real phenomenon (and not just meteorological) with quite a few cult scenes and remarkable intensity. So, the arrival of a sequel is rather pleasing, especially when we see the means deployed: We will follow the adventures of seasoned tornado chasers, determined to analyze the most dangerous climates even if it means losing their lives. For once, the old cast is no longer to be declared (and we must make a special mention of Bill Paxton, who left in 2017) and is replaced by Glen Powell (Top Gun Maverick) or Daisy Edgar-Jones (By God's Order), all supervised by Lee Isaac Chung (The Mandalorian, Minari). Come on, we sincerely hope not to be disappointed and to have a nice legacy to the original film.

Deadpool & Wolverine

THE blockbuster that everyone is waiting for. It's simple: after complicated years, Marvel is playing big with Deadpool & Wolverine, which is also the only feature film planned for the year. The stakes are high since it is about seducing the public again, announcing a new direction, respecting the universe and tone of Deadpool (who was not in the MCU before) while honoring the character of Wolverine, for which Hugh Jackman was not supposed to re-enlist. Oh, and by the way, it is normally with this film that the X-Men will really integrate into the Marvel Cinematic Universe… So yes, Disney had better not screw up, this time.
