Resident Evil 9: Capcom confirms development

Last night, Capcom talked about the next “Resident Evil” and revealed which director is responsible for production.

It's no big secret that Capcom is working on a new main part of the “Resident Evil” series. During the nightly streaming event, the new horror title was officially confirmed and provided with initial information.

While the extensive unveiling of “Resident Evil 9”or whatever the sequel may be called, is still pending, the publisher during the Next Digital Showcase It is not known who is pulling the strings as director of the production.

This position will be taken over by Koshi Nakanishi, who already took on this role during the development of “Resident Evil 7”.

Director promises something substantial

What players can expect from the new “Resident Evil” is largely unknown, if we ignore the rumors. However, the appointed director promises something with weight.

“It was difficult to figure out what to do after Resident Evil 7,” Nakanishi said during the showcase. “But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't reveal any details yet. But I hope you're excited for the day when I can.”

Nakanishi has a long-standing connection to the “Resident Evil” series. In addition to his work on “Resident Evil 7,” which revived the series in 2017, Nakanishi also led the development of “Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D” for the Nintendo 3DS and the first “Resident Evil Revelations.” He was involved as a designer on “Resident Evil 5.”

It is still unclear when “Resident Evil 9” will be fully revealed. According to recent rumors, there was an internal delay and the release is planned for late 2025 or early 2026. However, the main source has corrected such statements several times.

Capcom is also said to have remakes of “Resident Evil Zero” and “Code Veronica” planned. The same applies to new versions of “Resident Evil 1” and “Resident Evil 5”. However, the Japanese publisher is keeping quiet about this, so we will have to wait and see what the planners really have in mind.
