The same applies to Perksthat give you passive bonuses. Since you can only choose from a random selection of items and perks, you will end up with a slightly different deck each time you play through the game.

On the different levels on the way to the final boss you can determine your own pathSome lead you past a merchant, a blacksmith or a difficult fight. There are also small puzzles that can also yield loot.

Some of the encounters are also optional and you have to decide whether you want to risk a few life points to get a powerful item. Or you might come away empty-handed and not have enough HP to face the boss.
