Really bad and still a box office hit? Or a return to form? The new Minions are destroying the box office charts

Some may find it hard to believe, but the first Despicable Me is now almost 14 years old. Hardly anyone would have thought back then that the animated film would become such a big franchise. Numerous successors and a spin-off should follow in the coming years.

And yes, you may not be able to see them anymore, but the Minions (buy now 7,99 € ) are as popular as ever. Well, at least the marketing department still seems to be able to work with them. Around the latest Despicable Me, the little yellow cuddly balls in focus.

Despicable Me 4 in cinemas

In the press ratings, Despicable Me 4 does not make the best impression. The average rating in the Tomatometer is 5.5 out of 10 possible points. But anyone who thinks that the audience shares a similar impression is mistaken.

With an audience score of 4.3 out of 5, the animated film is clearly convincing. The average rating on IMDb is 6.3 out of 10 possible stars. The fan community does not seem to be expecting a cinematic disaster. Only time will tell how the fourth part will fare against the rest of the series.

The third film in particular is stumbling enormously on Rotten Tomatoes. Not only does the meager 5.7 out of 10 on the Tomatometer speak against the project, but especially the comparatively meager audience score of 3.4 points.
