Ravendawn – The MMORPG Ravendawn announces itself in open beta, awaiting a release on January 16

Ravendawn has been in development for several years now and will finally launch on January 16. Until then, the sandbox MMORPG will be the subject of a final open beta from December 14 to 20.

In development for several years now within the independent studio Tavernlight Games, the sandbox MMORPG Ravendawn is finally preparing its commercial launch. We remember that the MMORPG remained in alpha for a long time, was the subject of several testing phases (including an open beta last March) and according to the developer, the release of Ravendawn is now set for January 16. To prepare for this, a “final open beta” phase will be organized from December 14 to 20, allowing all curious people to (re)discover the latest version of the game mechanics.

For the record, Ravendawn is betting on gameplay that is rather old school and resolutely open: the game immerses players in a fantastic medieval universe (in pixel art and displaying an isometric view) that players will have to make their own.

Open gameplay

Concretely, Ravendawn offers eight character archetypes (warrior, mage, healer, etc.) and the player will be able to advance three of them in concert to combine their respective abilities. To increase the customization capabilities of its hero, the game also includes thematic Ravenscards (skills) that can be collected to form decks to use in combat. In Ravendawn, players will have to face the wildlife of the game universe and bumps (PvE) particularly in the context of quests or dungeons, but will also have to reckon with other players in the context of PvP confrontations – the game includes protected areas and dangerous areas where PvP is free or almost free.

Ravendawn

However, Ravendawn does not rely solely on combat. Alongside an adventurer career, players can also opt for a craft profession or engage in trade to keep the economy going. For example, it is possible to buy land to set up your house, but also with a view to resale, or to raise mounts to trade. The developer boasts economic mechanics completely managed by the players.

A premium subscription

From January 16, Ravendawn will be distributed free-to-play, but will also offer an optional premium subscription (billed at $8 per month, or $77 for a year) granting various bonuses. Some are cosmetic (the possibility of unlocking Tier 3 cosmetic outfits), others offer priority access to servers in the event of queues, still others will allow you to progress faster (the “effort points” won in the game are tripled – they notably allow you to exploit agricultural land in the game). The curious will in any case be able to form an opinion in the “final open beta” from December 14, provided they create an account on the official website.
