An Xbox for 9,100 euros

An Xbox for 9,100 euros, how about that? What if we told you that there are only 50 copies of this model that were manufactured in 2003 to promote the release of a very special movie: Hulk. This is the extremely rare Hulk edition Xbox console, which was also one of the 36 units offered following a competition organized by British cinemas. Its particularity obviously lies in its green color and the Hulk and Pepsi logos affixed instead of the usual Xbox logo. After 62 auctions, the console finally found a buyer this year for around 9,100 euros; a sum promised to a very good cause: the money raised will be donated to the British Heart Foundation to support research into cardiovascular diseases.

The machine was featured in a BBC article which says it was Paul Smith, a tester for the charity British Heart Foundation, who discovered its potential value while examining it: “She really caught my attention“, he said. And added: “I'm a video game enthusiast myself, but the rare green color paired with the Hulk and Pepsi logo really stood out.“. The charity's eBay sale announcement also states:

“In the United States, a green Xbox was created for the Mountain Dew brand. They made 5,000 of them and they are highly sought after. So this one is even rarer. There are none on eBay and none hasn't been sold in the past, so they are rare, and the likelihood of finding another one is low.”

In the world of rare consoles

The world of video games is vast and full of hidden treasures. Just recently, we told you about the Game Axe, a little-known portable console derived from Nintendo's Famicom. This anecdote is more a matter of luck, as a player stumbled upon this relic of the Tenth Art in a Thai store. The Game Axe was designed by the Taiwanese company Legend Technology Co., LTD., and was marketed under the Redant brand. For your information, it was released the same year as the Game Boy, but has completely sunk into oblivion despite its ingenuity. While it allowed you to enjoy Japanese Famicom games and American and European NES games from its small interface, its adapter was unfortunately unstable and caused untimely game interruptions. Today, the machine remains a rare and difficult to handle collector's item.
