Fans of Rumiko Takahashi's stories can look forward to a very special treat. A new edition of the anime “Ranma 1/2”, which originally ran in 1989, was recently announced. Further information on the upcoming series will follow on July 17th.

The anime is based on the completed manga series of the same name, which was published in Japan from September 1987 to February 1996 in a total of 407 individual chapters. The original series adaptation had a total of 161 episodes and was produced by Kitty Film and Studio Deen.

New edition of bizarre transformation story is coming

“Ranma 1/2” is about 16-year-old Ranma Saotome, who is engaged to Akane Tendo by his father Genma. This is to ensure the succession of the Tendo martial arts school. However, the two young people initially strictly reject the engagement. In addition, Ranma, Genma and other characters have fallen into an enchanted spring, which causes them to transform into a different form when they come into contact with cold water.

Ranma becomes a girl, while Genma mutates into a panda. The effect can only be reversed with hot water. In addition, the protagonists are repeatedly involved in fights, which often leads the characters to find themselves in strange and crazy situations.

Anime was also popular in Germany

“Ranma 1/2” was the third major series by mangaka Rumiko Takahashi after “Urusei Yatsura” and “Maison Ikkoku”. The anime “Urusei Yatsura” had already been remade.

In Germany, the first 80 episodes of “Ranma 1/2” have been shown on RTL 2 since April 11, 2002. There is currently no German version of the remaining 81 episodes. The original anime is currently not available on TV or streaming in Germany. However, Anime Virtual has released the first 80 episodes of the series in three DVD boxes. Here, too, there are currently no plans to release the remaining episodes in German.
