In the past few hours, players on the PS5 have been complaining about the fluctuating performance of the loot shooter “The First Descendant”. To get around this, part of the community resorted to a workaround.

As is unfortunately common with major online titles, “The First Descendant” also started with various errors. On the one hand, players on all platforms complained about Problems with microtransactions or in-game purchases. The performance of the shooter on the PS5 is also causing dissatisfaction at launch.

For example, “The First Descendant” on the PS5 is struggling with various problems such as an unstable frame rate, which, according to those affected, is noticeable in “massive FPS drops”. In some cases, the frame rate is said to be in the range of 15 to 20 FPS.

Shooter unplayable according to users

As several users on platforms such as Reddit or X (formerly Twitter) have stated, the shooter is sometimes unplayable on the PS5 due to the fluctuating frame rate. To get around the problems and play “The First Descendant” with a largely stable frame rate, grabbed a part those affected resort to a plan B.

So the players decided to delete the PS5 version and install the PS4 version of “The First Descendant” instead. Visually, the shooter is not quite as impressive on Sony's old console. However, compared to the PS5 version, it currently scores with significantly better and more stable performance.

Since the new shooter from Nexon supports cross-progression, progress and content can be transferred from the PS4 to the PS5.

Another possible workaround

In addition to the possibility of initially resorting to the PS4 version, the community mentions another possible workaround that at least provides some relief.

We are talking about the possibility of deactivating the motion blur function, which in turn leads to a slightly more stable performance.

But even with the motion blur disabled, the PS5 version of “The First Descendant” is far from the performance that was offered in the beta. It is currently unclear when the developers at Nexon will make technical improvements with updates.

“The First Descendant” is available for PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox consoles.
