A brand new Steam feature now makes it easier to record your sessions. Valve has now released the function as a beta – many fans have been wanting this practical solution for years.

Good news for Steam fans: Valve launches new feature

The new feature is called Steam Game Capture and is designed to make it much easier for you to record, trim, play and share your gameplay. Until now, this was only possible via third-party programs, but now Steam has its own solutionwhich is located directly within the client. The feature should not only work on the PC, but also on the go on the Steam Deck and without restrictions for every game on the platform.

The new Steam feature offers you two recording modes – with background recording you record the entire session and save it as an MP4 file in a specified location. You can also specify the maximum size and length of the recording beforehand. Alternatively, you can also choose to start recording manually if you only want to capture specific moments.

The Play feature gives you the opportunity to to recall certain moments in a timely mannerfor example, to analyze errors in your game. You can trim your recorded material using the recording and screenshot interface and finally you can easily send the desired recordings to your friends using the new Save / Share menu. How to participate in the Steam beta

If you don’t want to wait until the new feature leaves the beta phase, you can now easily register for itTo do this, simply go to Settings in the Steam client and click on Interface. There you will find the Client Beta Participation option and you can agree. Now you just have to decide whether you would rather try background recording or manual recording.
