Patent reveals lost Xbox console you’ll never get to play

Microsoft is currently launching the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S. We now know, however, that a third console was planned, but it never saw the light of day. A patent now shows what the Xbox Keystone would have looked like.

Pictures of the missing Xbox console have emerged

The patent describes a flat, square console shown as if someone had cut a slice off the Xbox Series X. On the small box is a circle, similar to the circular fan of the Xbox Series S. Part of the console concept is also a port for USB-A, HDMI, Ethernet and finally a power connection (source: Windows Central).

Why did the Xbox console never come out?

As early as June 2022, Microsoft confirmed that the development of Keystone was not going exactly smoothly. According to Windows Central, Xbox boss Phil Spencer stated just a few months later that Microsoft simply couldn't find the right priceThe tech company had targeted a price between 99 and 129 US dollars. However, this could not be achieved because Microsoft also wanted to include a controller and the production costs would then have been too high.

The Xbox Keystone was never sold, but at least the Xbox boss himself has a copy in his office. A picture of Spencer's shelf revealed a View of the front of the console – or at least a prototype. Even if you never play on the streaming console, you've at least seen what you're missing out on.
