Patent lets you create minigames from gameplay

Another patent from Sony has surfaced. This time it's about creating your own mini-games from your recorded gameplay.

Sony regularly draws attention to itself with registered patents that describe innovative features for the PlayStation. Now another one has surfaced that describes an interesting system.

This system allows you to mark specific moments in your gaming experience. When you pause at the desired point, you can tag the current image with all kinds of metadata, such as where you are in the game and what you are doing there. The system then converts the tagged moment into a video and creates a mini-game from it.

Now you have a playable section that you can play again and again or make available to others.

Interesting opportunities for PlayStation players & developers

This function could be particularly interesting for streamers. It would give them the opportunity to create challenges for their community. Developers could also use this function to create mini demos. Esports teams would also be a useful target group, as they could test new players and find out what they are capable of.

Sony filed the patent in March of this year, but it was only published a few days ago. We also reported today on another Sony patent that describes a type of PS3 emulator.

Last April, an interesting patent appeared that could save the player from long-winded passages. It described a automatic playback functionwhich allows the user to give up control. This could save you from having to do boring grinding in the future.

Another past patent for the PlayStation: a dynamic level of difficulty that adapts to the action in real time. This could create an individual gaming experience that replaces rigid difficulty levels.
