New project even further away? Job advertisements fuel fears

Current job postings indicate that Cloud Chamber is looking to fill numerous positions. But what does this mean for the upcoming “BioShock” title that is currently being developed by the developer studio?

At the end of 2019, Take-Two Interactive’s publishing label 2K Games announced ongoing work on a new “BioShock” title The Cloud Chamber studio, which was founded specifically for the project, is responsible for the development.

Without going into further detail, 2K Games announced at the time that the new “BioShock” is scheduled for a release in the 2025 fiscal year. Since things have been very quiet about the title in recent years, many now doubt that Cloud Chamber will meet this release date.

The studio's current job postings raise additional doubts. The job advertisements indicate that Cloud Chambers is looking to fill more than 30 positions in its offices in Novato and Montreal.

Project still in an early stage of development?

Among other things, the studio is looking for a level designer, a narrative designer, a technical designer and a senior writer. The positions of producer and executive producer are also being filled. This suggests that the new “BioShock” could still be in an early stage of development.

Even though 2K Games and Cloud Chambers have not yet commented on the current speculations about the long-term project, they are consistent with rumors from the past. In May 2023, leaker and industry insider “OopsLeaks” made unpleasant statements about the new “BioShock.”

Like “OopsLeaks” reported2K Games and Cloud Chambers are said to have restarted development of the title for the fourth time in 2022.

Are inexperienced developers causing problems?

“Poor management, uncertainty about financial success, and questionable personnel decisions are the reasons why this game is so difficult and taking so long to develop. The lack of major updates or announcements only adds to the confusion about the future of the game,” the leaker said last year.

As “OopsLeaks” added, 2K Games and Cloud Chamber relied largely on new and inexperienced developers when working on the new “BioShock”. This was an unusual approach for a major brand like “BioShock” and, according to “OopsLeaks”, led to various problems and delays.

Since those responsible for the new “BioShock” did not want to comment on the leaker’s information, it is unclear to what extent the statements made by “OopsLeaks” are accurate.
