Google Maps, a new companion for public transport

If you take public transport, there is a good chance that you will use the application dedicated to your transport authority or a specialized third-party application like Citymapper. The main advantage of these applications is that they can tell you, in real time, the best route to take. To do this, they take into account several criteria, such as the number of changes, the duration of the journey, or even the arrival time, while relying on the level of attendance on the lines you take.

These applications will soon have a new major competitor. Google has just announced that Maps will soon be able to update your public transport routes by taking into account all the elements mentioned above. It will even be possible to apply filters to favor a particular type of transport, or to reduce walking distance. Additionally, Google Maps will show you the location of each station’s entrances and exits, and which side of the street they are on. These new features regarding public transport will be deployed over the coming weeks on Android and iOS.

Collaborative lists and reaction emojis

Two other important new features will also arrive in Google Maps. The first concerns the module allowing you to create lists of places in the application. You will soon be able to create collaborative lists to more easily plan your outings and trips with friends. When you share a location with friends, Google Maps will automatically suggest creating a collaborative list. Each participant will be able to add places to visit, give their feelings using emojis, or even add comments on the places added to the list. Collaborative lists will be available on both Android and iOS, and will be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.

In addition, Google has indicated its intention to extend emoji reactions to Google Maps. Starting today on iOS and Android, you can react with an emoji to photos, videos, as well as comments posted by other users. It will even be possible to use the Emoji Kitchen to create a personalized reaction by mixing several emojis.

A new color palette for the map

Google Maps cartography will soon adopt a new color palette. Google officially announced it a few weeks ago, when it revealed several new features coming to Maps, such as the arrival of routes in immersive view. The Mountain View firm had thus indicated its intention to update the colors used throughout the map, but also to display more realistic buildings. And it seems that these new features are about to be deployed on a large scale in the application. As reported Androidfontseveral users have started to see this new cartography displayed in Google Maps.

Checks made, on the latest update of Google Maps on iOS (6.92.0) and on Android (11.105.01014), the colors of the map have been updated to adopt this new color scheme.
