New features and improvements: Update out of nowhere for FritzBox routers

The German manufacturer AVM is currently preparing for the release of Fritz!OS 8 which is to be launched with many improvements and functions. There is currently no date for the update, but some of the new features are already being tested. These are the so-called Lab Updateswhich AVM provides. FritzBox owners can use it test various functions in advance as a beta versionbefore they later become part of an official update.

AVM has only been offering Version 7.90 as laboratory update for several FritzBox models. After the preliminary test was only carried out for the Routers 5590 Fiber, 7590 AX and 7590 was available, are now more models to the list added.

Highlights of the beta version include brand new smart home features and User interface revisions. A Preview of the new features of the lab update from AVM is below.

  • New graphical online monitor with extended information on the utilization of the Internet connection by individual network devices
  • Extending the online time for a network device with limited online time in its network device details by 45 minutes each
  • Visualization of WLAN usage in the home network for the last 7 days added to “WLAN > Radio channel”
  • Devices that use guest access can be given their own names in the mesh overview graphic
  • The templates also allow you to set the target temperature for radiator controls, the brightness, saturation and color for lamps, and the position for roller shutters in percentage increments
  • Possibility of limiting the adjustable temperature for radiator controllers
  • New graphical representation of the FRITZ!Box connection status on the overview

Which FritzBox routers will receive the new update?

Manufacturer AVM has three more FritzBox models in Fritz! Laboratory added, which now also test version 7.90 These include the Routers 6690, 6660 and 6591 CableBy installing the lab update, all users can participate in the development and contribute to troubleshooting with feedback. Anyone who does not have a beta version on their Hardware has to wait until Release of Fritz!OS 8 wait.
