Sources speak of toxic behavior

According to reports, the Netflix series about “Horizon” has not been continued for the time being after a series of allegations were made against showrunner Steve Blackman. Several anonymous sources who had worked with him on the series “The Umbrella Academy” spoke of toxic behavior.

As a result, projects involving Blackman were put on hold. “Rolling Stone has learned that two projects by Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman that were in development at Netflix, a Horizon Zero Dawn series and an original series called Orbital, are no longer moving forward,” said journalist Cheyenne Roundtree.

Blackman, however, takes a different view and says: “These allegations by a handful of disgruntled employees are completely false and outrageous and in no way reflect the cooperative, respectful and successful work environment that Mr. Blackman has cultivated,” said a spokesman. in a statement to the LA Times.

The only substantiated allegation is based on inappropriate text messages between Blackman and an older colleague whom he has considered a close friend for years. The fourth and final season of “The Umbrella Academy” will be released on August 8, 2024, so it remains to be seen how the case develops and how Netflix will respond.

The planned name for the series adaptation leaked out as early as 2022. It was apparently supposed to “Horizon 2074” Casting news and other details about the production remained largely a secret. But it was known quite early on that showrunner Steve Blackman would be leading the project.

It sounds likely that Sony will stop production of the TV series with Aloy in one of the main roles with a new partner, especially due to the success of other live-action films in recent times. “The Last of Us”, for example, has been able to collect awards and break records. A sequel has long been in the works:

The “Horizon” franchise is definitely continuing: The Spin-off “Lego Horizon Adventures”which is based on the eponymous building blocks, is due to be released this year. It will not stop there. Guerrilla Games, the developer behind “Horizon”, has Sequel plans for a “very long time”.
