Mortal Online 2 – Towards a return of the monthly subscription of Mortal Online 2

Following the chaotic launch of Mortal Online 2, StarVault decided not to charge the monthly subscription initially planned. The MMORPG is now more in line with initial promises. The subscription will be reactivated soon.

In January 2022, the launch of Mortal Online 2 clearly aroused great enthusiasm from fans of hardcore MMORPGs: in a few days, the StarVault studio claimed the sale of more than 110,000 copies of the game and was aiming for a goal of “more than 300,000 active players each month”. As is often the case, this enthusiasm was nevertheless accompanied by serious server stability problems, to the point that the developer announced that it would no longer charge the monthly subscription initially planned – Mortal Online 2 was therefore de facto marketed as a buy-to-play game.

A few months after the release, Henrik Nyström (the boss of StarVault) set his roadmap and specified that the monthly subscription for Mortal Online 2 would only be reactivated after the resolution of the technical problems, but also the deployment of the main promised features during development (notably the player territory control system) and the game’s switch to Unreal Engine 5.

However, these various objectives are on the verge of being achieved. At least that’s what Henrik Nyström indicated during his last livestream dated. According to the boss of the Swedish studio, “theepic release » (the version of Mortal Online 2 under Unreal Engine 5) is expected at the end of October, which should help improve the performance of the game (already much more stable than at release) and the territorial control system has been the subject of tests for several months now. According to the StarVault teams, the conditions will be met soon and the studio therefore plans to reactivate the monthly subscription for Mortal Online 2, probably by the end of October. When switching, the first “paid month” included in the price of the copy of the game will be activated and at the end of this first month, you will have to pay the monthly subscription to continue playing. According to Henrik Nyström, this development is “vital” for the StarVault studio, in order to “continue to grow, expand and obtain resources” and more broadly to “continue to develop the game”. Players have been warned.
