With “Tap to Pay” on the iPhone, businesses of all sizes can now accept payments with contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay and other digital wallets. All they need is an iPhone and a supporting iOS app. Adyen, Commerz Globalpay, myPOS, Nexi, SumUp and Viva are among the first payment platforms to offer this feature in Germany. Other providers such as Mollie, PAYONE, Revolut, the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe and Stripe will soon follow.

Seamless integration and use

Retailers can activate the new feature on an iPhone XS or a newer model with the latest iOS version. Customers then pay as usual with their contactless card, their iPhone, their Apple Watch or another payment method. The payment is processed via NFC, just like with other contactless payment methods, without the need for a separate payment terminal. Apple also emphasizes the high level of security of “Tap to Pay”. All transactions are encrypted and processed in the Secure Element.

Jennifer Bailey, Vice President of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet at Apple: “With 'Tap to Pay' on iPhone, we offer merchants a secure and convenient way to accept contactless payments without the need for additional hardware. By working with payment platforms and app developers, it will be easier than ever for companies to accept contactless payments and continue to grow their business.”
