The first half of the year was an opportunity to see the launch of numerous games, including Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, the big Microsoft exclusive eagerly awaited by Xbox players. But while we thought that the title would experience a certain commercial success, we have today discovered that sales are clearly not there on European territory.
Hellblade 2 out of the top 100 in May
Journalist Christopher Dring reveals in the columns of Gamesindustry.biz the ranking of video game sales for the period of May 2024.

Unsurprisingly, titles like EA Sports FC 24 and Grand Theft Auto V are at the top of the rankings, just ahead of EA Sports F1 24 which takes third place despite being released at the very end of the month.
Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door complete the top 5, while the top 10 is made up of games already released like Helldivers 2, Hogwarts Legacy and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order which benefited from big discounts during this period.
Dring indicates that new releases had a hard time last month, since titles like the System Shock remake, The Rogue Prince of Persia and Hellblade 2 failed to reach the top 100.
May was a brutal month for game sales in Europe. Fantastic games like the System Shock remake on consoles, Hellblade 2 and The Rogue Prince of Persia didn't make the Top 100. There are mitigating reasons, but the market remains difficult.
Not a big surprise?
In the case of Ninja Theory's game, we could logically say that its release on Xbox Game Pass played a determining role in its absence from the ranking.

However, the journalist specifies that most “Game Pass games” usually make the top 100, and that Starfield had also managed to rank in the top 10 upon its release.
Ninja Theory's game is obviously a less popular game, but one would have thought that it would have attracted more players, if only by its rather impressive graphic qualities. This is ultimately not the case for the European territory where players obviously mainly took advantage of Xbox Game Pass to discover the game, while almost half of the players did not go beyond the introductory sequence according to the data relating to successes.
Remember that Hellblade 2 is available exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC in dematerialized edition as well as in Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
