After a long period of radio silence, there is finally a sign of life from the series project that has been planned for years about the superhero “Green Lantern” from the DC universe.
Since James Gunn and Peter Safran began the complete redesign of the DCU, a lot has been happening at Marvel's big competitor. For example, the filming of the new “Superman” is in full swing, and many other films and series are also planned. The almost forgotten project surrounding “Green Lantern” is now even gaining momentum again. There is some good news.

Lanterns expands the new DCU
For a long time it had been very quiet around the project, but now there is finally a sign of life again – and with it concrete details. As Deadline magazine reportsHBO has given the green light to a series called “Lanterns” and officially commissioned it. Accordingly, concrete preparations for production can now begin.
Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen”) and Chris Mundy (“Ozark”) are primarily responsible for the series' showrunners. The script was at least partly written by comic book author Tom King (“Batman,” “Supergirl”), who has plenty of experience with superheroes. According to current information, the series “Lanterns” will consist of a total of eight episodes.
A series about the popular DC Comics superheroes has been in the works since 2019. Greg Berlanti, who has long been active in the DC universe as a producer with series adaptations such as “Arrow,” “Superman & Lois” and “The Flash,” was originally supposed to take care of the show. In 2022, the project apparently changed course and the focus of the superhero series shifted. “Lanterns” is now set to become part of James Gunn's DCU.

The story of the upcoming HBO series focuses on DC legend Hal Jordan and the still inexperienced recruit John Stewart. As Green Lanterns, they are actually intergalactic law enforcers, but one day they have to deal with a mysterious murder case on Earth – more precisely in the heart of America.
When does Lanterns start on HBO?
The series “Lanterns” will be shown in the USA on HBO. It is not yet known whether and where it will be shown in Germany. In all probability, As with other HBO productionsto enter into a cooperation with Sky/WOW.
There is no exact start date yet, nor are there any details about the cast. However, that is likely to change over the next few months. DC fans should not expect the premiere before 2026, however.
